Every now and then, if you’re really lucky, you’ll go on a surf trip that turns into something that’s about much more than surfing. Sure, it’s great to feel as though you have a goal in mind—like scoring perfect, empty waves in some far-flung tropical destination—but quite often (if you’ll pardon the overused saying) it’s about the journey, not the destination.
In the video above (click on photo above or here), a group of friends sets out to find waves on the shores of Kamchatka. It is unspoiled, untouched, and incredibly vast. There are waves to be had there—good ones—but these guys didn’t really find them working. Still, though, it is a surf better than most surf trips. Because a surf trip isn’t just about surfing. It’s about searching.
